Augments in CoD Black Ops 7 permanently or temporarily enhance a player’s abilities or weapon attributes in a Zombie Mode match, gaining a combat advantage. Simply put, it’s similar to Perks in previous Zombies Modes, but more flexible and customizable.

You have to reach Level 11 in BO7 Zombies to unlock Augment Research menu, and each augmentation has a Research diagram. Up to 8 Augments are unlocked by accumulating XP earned in Zombies. Once unlocked, an Extra Slot Minor Augment will also be available, allowing you to equip two Minor Augments in-game.
Upgrade progress completed in Black Ops 6 Zombies carries over to Black Ops 7. However, despite this carryover mechanism, Black Ops 7 introduces entirely new augmentations for all items, including those already present in previous games. Research progress for new items starts from 0%.
Augment Research Progress
Upgrade research progress is primarily based on player playtime in Zombies, regardless of individual game performance or skill. As long as the player is playing, the research progress of selected augmentations will slowly and steadily increase.
Augment menu in the lobby clearly displays currently active research projects and their progress percentages.
During gameplay, you can pause the game at any time and view their current Augment Research progress in the pause menu.
Augment Research Progress Test
Some players record the final data of each game and use the in-game Augment Research percentage progress to calculate the relationship between XP and progress.
They collected and organized data by comparing factors such as the number of games played, the final round, whether it was during double XP, whether Rampage Inducer was enabled, game duration, and total experience points gained.
In the final data, players excluded Challenge XP from the total experience points, as this may not be included in Augment Research progress.
Finally, by comparing Augment name, starting percentage, and ending percentage, the percentage increase per game is calculated. The total experience points and adjusted experience points are divided by the percentage increase to obtain two reference values.
Stats Error
Some players choose to research an Augment in CoD BO7 bot lobbies from scratch and immediately exit the game when an in-game notification pops up to unlock a Minor Augment or Major Augment, recording the percentage at that moment. They found that when unlocking the same level of Augment, the percentage displayed in the game varies across different playthroughs, with a difference of approximately 3%.
For players carrying over progress from Black Ops 6, the game displays all Augment research progress at 47%. However, in actual testing, some players found that after unlocking the third major augmentation skill (Major Augment), the progress displayed as 50%, not 47%.
So the research notification in the game may be delayed or inaccurate, causing the recorded unlock percentage to be slightly higher than expected. This results in a discrepancy between the displayed percentage and the required experience points when extrapolating.
Augment Research XP Percentage
Preliminary calculations, averaging a large amount of data, yielded an unadjusted XP per percent (including challenges) of approximately 7,840; while the adjusted XP per percent (excluding challenge rewards) averaged approximately 5,477.
To obtain more accurate data, a player conducted single-round tests. He repeatedly played one round until Augment progress increased precisely by 1%. Using this method, he obtained XP per percent values between approximately 5,100 and 6,253.
Combining all data and analysis, Augment Research’s XP per percent values are between 5,250 and 5,500.
Estimated Time Required
Assuming a player has a play rate of 575 XP per minute, based on the estimated XP per percent and Augment unlock milestones, fully researching an Augment from zero to max level would take approximately 16 hours of gameplay.
There are 24 enhancements available for research in CoD BO7. For a brand new account, without using any Double XP, unlocking all content is estimated to take 382 hours of gameplay.
How To Speed Up Research Progress?
Effective Methods
Obtaining Medals is key to improving research efficiency. In the game, frequently obtaining Medals through kill streaks, using equipment, Ammo Mods, and Field Upgrades provides a continuous experience gain, thus accelerating research. It’s recommended that you review the Medals list and build your equipment and playstyle around easily obtainable Medals.
It’s not just about Augment Research progress; in Black Ops 7, weapon tiers, camouflage, and operator tiers all require a lengthy time to fully unlock. To speed up your progress, you can use double XP tokens or complete various weapon challenges in Black Ops 7 bot lobbies. The low-pressure environment will make your challenges easier.
Ineffective Methods
Experience gained from completing Challenges, unlocking Camos, Reticles, etc., does not count towards Augment Research progress.
Rampage Inducer can increase the spawn rate of zombies, theoretically allowing players to gain more XP and Essence. However, in the testing, activating Rampage Inducer neither significantly increases nor decreases experience per minute, so its impact is still unclear.
This concludes the general overview of Augment research progress. IGGM recommends that you always maintain one enhancement in Augment state to maximize game time and continuously unlock new abilities.
